IPOB members Are trying to incite another civil war in Nigeria – Governor Umahi says

Dave Umahi, state governor of Ebonyi, has warned Igbos to be wary of the tactics of representatives of the outlawed Biafra IPOB Indigenous People, who he says are trying to start another civil war in Nigeria.

Governor Umahi said this on Sunday, November 8, when Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike paid a condolence visit to himself and other South-East governors and thought leaders over the confrontation between military men and IPOB representatives in the state’s Oyigbo local government region.

Recently, after the IPOB members clashed with military men, the Oyigbo region of the state was put under a 24-hour curfew, leading to the death of some residents of the area who are mainly Igbos. Some people accused the governor of inviting the military to destroy the Igbos, but the governor insisted that he did not have the powers to invite the military and that after the IPOB members hijacked the EndSARS protest to cause havoc in the state, the security agents came to restore peace in the region.

Governor Umahi was quoted as saying that the South East governors were in the state on a fact-finding mission to ascertain the truth behind allegations that the governor was killing Igbos in the state, according to a statement released by Governor Wike’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri.

In part, the sentence reads;

“Umahi cautioned Igbos to be wary of IPOB after listening to Governor Wike ‘s account of the atrocious activities of IPOB in Oyigbo that resulted in the implementation of curfews in the entire Local Government, as the party was determined to instigate another civil war that would lead to the murder of Igbo citizens.”

Governor Wike told the delegation that the Igbo, with whom he said the state has an enduring relationship, will continue to be home to the Rivers.

“Tell your people that the people of the Rivers will continue to live with the Igbos,” he was quoted as saying. Don’t encourage your sons to say lies to you. Igbos are groundbreaking and hardworking. Without Igbos, there can’t be Nigeria. They can be taken for granted by no one. But that doesn’t mean you have to allow your reputation to be spoiled by criminals.

I’m not going to name your son to my state cabinet twice if I hate Igbos. Yet you’ve got rules to follow. Don’t allow you to dictate to criminals. Governor Wike
