As its COVID-19 death toll went past 50,000 on Saturday, Iran has extended several coronavirus-related restrictions across the country.

Iran, the Middle East’s worst affected nation, is fighting its third epidemic wave.

It reached one million coronavirus cases on Thursday.

The partial two-week shutdowns have just resulted in cities across the country, including the capital, Tehran.

Depending on the degree of severity, all but vital services were shut down in their towns, and attendance at government offices was limited.

Based on the number of recorded COVID-19 hospitalizations, officials periodically update a color-coded list of cities and counties, classifying them from “white” denoting no danger to “red” which indicates the highest degree of alarm.

Partial shutdowns will continue, as reported on Saturday, in regions still designated as’ red.’

Also, a night-time curfew has been expanded to 278 towns, which are now labeled as “orange,” denoting enhanced regions.

There will continue to be a mandatory mask rule implemented throughout the world.

6,400 people with coronavirus have also been barred from public transport, according to Alireza Raisi, a spokesperson for the National Task Force on Coronavirus.
