President Buhari has told Nigerian youth protesting that they will do well to preserve peace as it is in their own ultimate interest in the country.

The President said this when the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, Nigeria’s former Minister of the Environment, received the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, in the State House on 9 November, in a statement released by the Presidential Assistant, Femi Adesina.

“Our own generation is on the last lap, we are exiting,” President Buhari said in response to the recent EndSARS protest, and the mayhem and destruction of public and private property that came in its wake.

It is in the interest of the youths to keep the peace. They want jobs, infrastructure and development. I have sent a team led by the Chief of Staff (Professor Ibrahim Gambari) to go round the country, talk to traditional rulers, who will then talk to the youths. The views of the youths have been heard” the President said

He said that significant infrastructural deficits were inherited by the new government, “and that is what we are battling to address.” It’s not enough that we should sit down, spread our hands, and do nothing. Within the limitations of capital, we do our best.

President Buhari ruled that the global economy has been reduced by COVID-19, adding that “this is something that you can’t see, smell, or hear,” but that has destroyed lives and livelihoods all over the world.

Nigeria was concerned about the recharge of Lake Chad, which has a significant impact on stability, irregular migration and livelihoods, he said, on climate change.

The Deputy Secretary-General mentioned that she was on a courtesy call with her team to raise awareness of the challenges facing the UN, particularly COVID-19, climate change, stability, and humanitarian responses to the various challenges.
