Wojciech Szczesny says that with their Supercoppa Italiana victory over Napoli on Wednesday, Juventus showed their hunger to win trophies.
With Cristiano Ronaldo’s close-range finish proving enough to secure the first silverware of the Andrea Pirlo period, Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty.
So far this season, Juve has been off the pace in Serie A, currently, 10 points behind leaders AC Milan, while they have a game in hand.
Szczesny skipped the immediate post-match festivities but says Juve is ready to ensure that by the end of the season they have plenty to enjoy.
“They took me to another room immediately to taste the doping, so I didn’t get a chance to celebrate with the boys,” he told Sky Sports.
It’s a pity because they enjoyed it! But we’re only two days away from [Sunday’s] match against Bologna and we need to move on right away.[Giorgio] Chiellini thanked me, but if we did not concede a goal, it was also due to his outstanding results. We have shown against Napoli that this team is so hungry to win trophies. Against Napoli.
“We [could win the title] this year for the 10th year in a row and this demonstrates the hunger we have and we don’t want to stop there. We’re going to the end.”
Juve needs to find the right balance of sophistication in attack with hard work in defense, Szczesny says.
