The Serie A club reported that Juventus defender Alex Sandro had tested positive for coronavirus.

After showing what Juve defined as “mild symptoms.” the Brazil international – who played in Sunday’s 4-1 league victory over Udinese in Turin – underwent a test. On Monday, the club confirmed the positive test.

‘Juventus reports that a check was arranged for player Alex Sandro after the emergence of some mild symptoms, which showed his positivity for Covid-19,’ a statement read.

“The player has been put in isolation already.”

“The club is in social and health care authorities for the definition of a proper performance of the protocols needed to allow the sports training activities of the team.”

Before being replaced by Gianluca Frabotta, Alex Sandro featured against Udinese for 83 minutes, at which point the hosts were 3-0 up in the game.

During the 2020-21 season, the 29-year-old made seven league appearances under Andrea Pirlo and played three times in the group stage of the Champions League.

In midweek, Juve will fly to San Siro to face AC Milan – the undefeated Serie A champions – followed by Sunday’s home game against Sassuolo.

For the trip to Milan, Pirlo is already likely to be without Alvaro Morata, with Spain internationally troubled by a thigh issue that held him out of the win over Udinese.
