Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has ordered all schools in the state to be closed immediately.
Recall that armed men stormed Government Science Secondary School in the state’s ara Local Government Area earlier on Saturday, December 12, and started shooting into the air, forcing the students to flee into the bush.
Governor Masari said, speaking with newsmen this afternoon,
This incident went beyond imagination. It is very worrisome and upsetting for us. I tell these children’s parents and guardians that we can’t say we’re more disturbed than they are, but to be confident that we share the same concern with them. Since we know we are responsible for protecting their lives and health.
The Governor said he had met with the military who told him that as efforts to locate the bandits escalate, they are on top of the situation. He declared that he had ordered all schools in the state to be immediately closed.
And by the grace of God, we will do all we need to save all of the abducted students. In the name of Allah and his messenger, I urge you people to please remain patient and intensify prayers.
This is because in this difficult moment, sharing responsibility and all forms of abuses are not the answer. Honestly speaking, we don’t enjoy what’s going on and we don’t do what we are expected to do when it comes to defending the lives of our people.
We want to assure you that as we have directed for the immediate closing of all schools in the state, we will do all we can for school children and that all students should be taken back home.
