In some quarters, the Federal Government has identified the argument that the abduction of some students from a boarding school in Kankara, Katsina State, and their release was stage-managed as meaningless.

On Saturday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, denied the argument when he appeared on a special edition of the ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ program of the Nigeria Television Authority.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja monitored the special edition of the usual weekday program dedicated to the rescue of the 344 schoolboys abducted from their school on Dec. 11 in Kankara.

NAN also recalls that 110 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe, were abducted on Feb. 19, 2018.

Some parties, including the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, had also claimed that it was stage-managed to score a cheap political points when the government secured the release of 104 of the schoolgirls and two other children on March 21, 2018.

In response to the allegation, the minister claimed that it makes no sense for any government to stage-manage the kidnapping of students or any of its people.

What does the government intend to do precisely? Is it to show the military’s weakness or what?

“We had all sorts of bizarre ideas in the case of Dapchi.

“He said You have to be in government to know how many sleepless nights the president, ministers and heads of security forces have spent before the matter is resolved.

Mohammed said that many people were disappointed that the abduction of Kankara was resolved only as quickly as that of Dapchi.

“He said Many naysayers would love to stay on the incident and become the ignition rod for their assaults.

Otherwise, how do we identify the spurious organization such as the Bring Back Our Boys that appeared a few days after the students were captured?

“The so-called organization had relocated to Katsina within a few days of the abduction.

When you have such a case, naysayers who are willing to bring down the government will come up with all sorts of ideas that do not make sense.

In 2018, the abduction of Dapchi was how come two years down the road, nobody came out to tell us how it was handled on stage? ”

The Minister admonished lawmakers and other stakeholders to avoid politicizing and commercializing security problems and national tragedies.

In times of crisis and disaster, individuals typically come together to deal with the problem.

“It is not a time for the suffering and misfortune of a country to be politicized and even sold or commercialized.

“We can have our differences, but we should come together and fight against them when it comes to safety issues,” he said.

Mohammed observed that it was disappointing that some political parties had come to Abuja days after the Kankara boys were abducted, distributing vests and putting banners all over the streets.

He emphasized that periods of national crisis, such as child abduction, should not be used to denigrate the military, adding that citizens should instead come together to provide solutions.
