Klete Keller, the US Olympic swimming gold medallist, has been accused by the Justice Department of engaging in President Donald Trump’s supporters’ attack on Congress on January 6.

The 38-year-old, who won five Olympic swimming medals, including two relay gold medals, was filmed as part of a crowd that, after violent demonstrators forced their way in, illegally entered the huge Rotunda hall of the Capitol.

Photos from the Capitol show Keller wearing a jacket from the US Olympic Team and “appears to be one of the tallest individuals,” writes Barofsky in his statement of truth. Keller has a height of 6 feet, 6 inches.

According to records filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, DC, he was charged with intentionally accessing or staying in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, aggressive entry and disorderly behavior on Capitol grounds, and obstructing law enforcement engaged in official duties incident to civil disorder.

USA Swimming told CNN in a statement, “We respect private individuals’ and groups’ rights to peacefully protest but in no way condone the actions taken by those at the Capitol last week.”

The Olympic & Paralympic Committee of the United States said it condemned the rioters’ actions.

“We support the right to demonstrate and express values and viewpoints in a peaceful and legal manner — that is what makes our democracy strong. Sadly, that is not what happened in this instance,” the organization said in a statement.

In 2000, 2004 and 2008, Keller competed in the Olympics, taking golds and a silver in the 4 to 200 meter freestyle relays and two bronzes in the 400 meter freestyle.
