With the Liverpool manager beating Hansi Flick and Marcelo Bielsa to the coveted honor, Jurgen Klopp was named the Best FIFA Men’s Coach for the second time.

After guiding Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years, Klopp got the most votes from supporters, journalists, national team coaches and captains.

On Thursday night, he was awarded the accolade, with pre-ceremony favorite Flick finally missing out despite masterminding the run of Bayern Munich to last term’s Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup glory.

After a 16-year absence, Klopp also beat out Bielsa, who led Leeds United back to the Premier League, and he was surprised to pick up the gong for a second consecutive year after also delivering a European Cup at Anfield in 2019.

“I am [shocked]. I was sitting here because I thought last year I won it I am here with my players. Thank you very much, wow,” said the German tactician after winning the trophy.

I have to thank so many people, and most of all my coaches. If I had known we would have won it, my coaches would be here with me These boys are all about what we did last year.

We haven’t been dreaming for 30 years, but we have been dreaming for a few years. It was truly outstanding and we all had a special year in a sadly not so optimistic way, but in a tricky time, we could at least make some highlights for Liverpool fans. I didn’t know how it was going to feel and it felt completely overwhelming.

With a record-breaking seven games left to spare last season, Liverpool secured the Premier League and finished just one point short of Manchester City’s all-time record points (100).

However, Klopp’s side equaled City’s mark of 18 straight top-flight victories, thus setting a new record for the best-ever beginning of a season by racking up 61 points from their first 21 fixtures.
