Liverpool’s 7-0 Crystal Palace demolition on Saturday ensures that in the Premier League period, Jurgen Klopp has now won more top-flight matches than any other Reds manager.

Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson’s goals, plus two from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah each, ensured that Liverpool will top the table in style at Christmas.

It was Klopp’s 127th Premier League win, surpassing the record of 126 by Rafael Benitez. And while Benitez was in charge of 228 league games, Klopp just exceeded his record of 196.

Klopp and his side will now no doubt have their eyes firmly set on another with a first Premier League title won earlier this year.

Liverpool has a clear lead at the top of the table after the last-minute victory over Tottenham in midweek and will be looking to stretch it next Sunday against West Brom.

The quality of goals scored sent a message to their title rivals, from Mane’s good effort on the turn to Firmino’s deft touch and finish and Salah’s long-range curler, but there was also an indicator of how well-rounded Liverpool’s success was.

Each of their goals was sponsored by a different player, the first time in a Premier League game that seven different players have supported goals for a single team.

Before the game, Palace Manager Roy Hodgson said he thought Jordan Henderson had already won himself a potential statue outside of Anfield, and Klopp’s captain was delighted with his team’s killer instinct.

Henderson told BT Sport, “I thought we were ruthless today and took our chances, which is always necessary.”

For long stretches, we dominated the game, but I still thought we were sloppy at times. Overall, we are thrilled with the production. It is important to end this week off with the win after midweek and we managed to do that.

I knew it was coming as we had opportunities over the last few games and didn’t take them, which often cost us.

“I thought midweek and again today were very good, so we just need to keep the momentum going and work hard.”

Liverpool round off 2020 after the home fixture with West Brom, with a trip to Newcastle before an away game against Southampton to start the new year.
