After leading the Bundesliga giants to a historic treble, the Bayern Munich star received the fifth edition of the annual award.

With the Bayern Munich star beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the coveted award, Robert Lewandowski has been named the Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year for 2020.

In the 2019-20 season, the Poland forward was unprecedented, scoring 55 goals in 47 appearances as Bayern swept to the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal treble, with Lewandowski the top scorer in all three competitions.

The 32-year-old continued his amazing form in the new season and scored his 250th Bundesliga goal on Wednesday to help Bayern secure a significant victory.

“I feel fantastic,” said Lewandowski. I’m very proud and pleased to be honest, this is a wonderful day for me, as well as for my club and colleagues. My colleagues, the coach and Bayern Munich in general also earn this award. It’s an amazing feeling, a lot of emotions. It’s a great feeling.

If you win an award like that and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, it’s fantastic and it means so much to me. I recall a long time ago that I longed for anything like this and now I can win such an award. This just means, regardless of where you come from what you bring into it is all that counts.

Apart from Lewandowski, with Manuel Neuer voted the Best Men’s Goalkeeper ahead of Liverpool keeper Alisson and Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, it was a good night for Bayern.

After assisting French giants Lyon to a Division 1, Champions League and Coupe de France treble, Sarah Bouhaddi was named the Best Women’s Goalkeeper. Christiane Endler of the PSG and Alyssa Naeher of the Chicago Red Stars beat Bouhaddi to the award.
