Lil Wayne is now facing a new federal weapons charge which if convicted, could see him spend a long time in jail.

TMZ announced that the American rapper is charged with 1 count of a convicted felon’s possession of a weapon and ammunition by the U.S. Attorney for Florida’s Southern District.

If convicted, Lil Wayne, who was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York back in 2009, faces up to 10 years in jail.

The charge stems from an incident in December 2019 where federal agents at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport searched a private plane carrying Wayne from California to Florida.

According to the Miami Herald, after receiving a report that guns and marijuana were possibly being transported by the plane, the Miami-Dade Police alerted federal authorities to the aircraft. Investigators from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Guns and Explosives, and other agencies reportedly conducted the search.

Howard Srebnick, the rapper’s attorney, said he was charged back in December with carrying a gold-plated pistol in his luggage. Said Srebnick;

There is no argument that he has ever shot, brandished, used or attempted to use it There is no claim that he is a violent individual.

“The charge is that he is prohibited from possessing a firearm because he was convicted of a felony in the past.”

Lil Wayne is set to appear next month in court.
