For allegedly serving a rice dish mixed with her urine and menstrual blood, a Filipino woman has appeared in court in Singapore.

Canares Rowena Ola, 43, is caught giving meals in December 2018 to the occupants of a specific flat in Sengkang in the island city-state of Singapore.

Neither the victim’s name nor a potential motive was disclosed in court, although it is understood that the dish was consumed, according to the police.

The link between the woman and the victims from the Philippines is also uncertain.

Ola has pleaded not guilty to a mischief charge on which she could be sentenced for up to a year.

Channel News Asia reports that her lawyer, Kalaithasan Karuppaya, said his client was contesting the charge.

“She’s trying to dispute that such a thing never happened. She never committed this offence,” he said.

As they were fully eaten, the court heard that no research was performed on the soiled food products.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Keith Jieren Thirumaran told District Judge Marvin Bay that according to local sources, Ola had previously confessed to the crime in multiple statements to the authorities.

Next month, her pre-trial hearing will take place.

An Indonesian maid was found guilty of mixing her period blood and urine, as well as some dirty water, into a rice platter for her family in an unrelated incident earlier this year in Singapore, too.

The 30-year-old, known only by her first name Diana, was employed to serve as a housemaid by a family in 2017.

The court was advised that Diana assumed that they would no longer scold her if the family ate the food and instead do what she told them.

She was sentenced to seven months imprisonment for two counts of mischief.
