The Cross River State Family Court in Calabar sentenced 47-year-old Emmanuel Thompson Udo to life imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter.
Udo was found guilty of raping the minor in August 2018 at his residence No. 45 Afokang Lane, state local government area of Calabar South, on Thursday, December 3.
He has been condemned by Hon. Justice E.E. Ita, Acting Chief Judge of the State of Cross River and Chief Justice of the Family Court.
His conviction was obtained by the Initiative for Basic Rights Counsel (BRCI); Hon. Former Cross River State Attorney General Tanko Ashang; Mr. Felix Itittim, the DPP; Blessing Egwu and the Police of Nigeria.
Barr. Ah. James Ibor, Head of BRCI, said that after the victim’s mother reported the matter to the group, the rape incident was revealed. He said that the victim, who is 16 years old now was delighted to hear about the sentence handed down to her stepfather.
Ibor thanked the special investigators of the Nigeria Police; the former State Attorney General of Cross River, Hon. Tanko Ashang; Mr. Felix Itittim, the DPP, and Blessing Egwu for their efforts to ensure the victim’s justice.
