Man detained for manslaughter of his girlfriend and their 9-month old daughter in South Africa

On Thursday, January 21st, a 29-year-old man, Naseem Ahmed, who allegedly killed his girlfriend and their child in South Africa, was arrested.

On 14 January, Chantelle Ester Ash and their nine-month-old daughter, Tasneem Isha Ash, were found strangled at a lodge on the R518 road between Mokopane and Marken Road in Masodi village.

Their hands were bound from behind and their bodies were in a state of decay.

Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Provincial Police Speaker, who confirmed the incident, said that at approximately 19:00 on Tuesday, 12 January 2021, “a man and woman with their nine-month-old baby were dropped off at the gate of the lodge by a gray unknown motor vehicle.”

Apparently, without providing their personal details, the trio rented a room for overnight accommodation and promised the receptionist that they would check out at 09:00 the next day, on Wednesday, 13 January 2021.

The receptionist chose the next day to go and check on them and made the gruesome discovery. In addition, the male person who came with them to the lodge was not present.

They told the police immediately. The 72-hour activation plan was mobilized to include the Crime Intelligence, Tracking Squad, Investigators, and other supporting units.

A major manhunt was launched, resulting in the arrest of this perpetrator in the Gauteng Province of Brixton.

At this point, Ngoepe said the motive behind this incident is not yet clear, but domestic violence can not be ruled out.

On Friday, January 22, the suspect, claimed to be a Pakistani national, appeared before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, the Regional Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, welcomed the suspect’s arrest.

The Provincial Commissioner praised the speedy arrest of the police and stressed that swift action should send a strong message to those involved in heinous crimes, especially against women and children, that they should be tracked and booked.
