After receiving N43,000 from the operator, a middle-aged man in the Edo state, identified as David, apparently deserted his wife and three children at a Point of Sale (POS) store.
The incident happened in Oluku, near Benin City, the state capital of Edo, on Saturday.
The man went to the POS store with his wife and three children, gave his ATM card to the female attendant, and demanded that the amount of N43,000 be withdrawn.
A witness claimed that the man asked the POS attendant to give him the money after several attempts to effect the withdrawal failed, although his family and the attendant proceeded to attempt the withdrawal.
The man begged with the POS attendant first to give him the money, because he had an urgent situation to sort out.
As a promise that he will return soon, he left his wife and three children behind.
“The attendant attempted to withdraw the money from his account several times after giving him the money, but the transaction failed,” the source added.
The POS attendant then reported the matter to the Ekiadolor Police Division, where the woman and her three children are currently being kept, after waiting indefinitely.
