Chukwuemeka Obijofa, a 28-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife, Chisom Chukwuemeka, 26, and his four-year-old son with a shovel, was arrested by Anambra State Police Command operatives.
CSP Haruna Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, PPRO, who made this known in a statement yesterday in Awka, said that the suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances not yet identified before assaulting his wife and child.
“He said: “At approximately 7:45 p.m. on January 26, police agents attached to the Ozubulu Police Station arrested one Chukwuemeka Obijofa, 28, from the village of Ofufe Nza in the Anambra State Local Government Area of Ekwusigo.
In circumstances yet to be determined, the suspect allegedly ran amok and attacked his wife, one Chisom Chukwuemeka, 26, and own girl, Amanda Chukwuemeka, 4, with a shovel on their heads.” The spokesman said the suspect attacked a member of the vigilante group of the community equally, who tried to rescue the victims with the same shovel and left him with wounds.”
Meanwhile, police detectives reached the scene and rushed the victims to the Ozubulu Joint Hospital, where the woman and child were certified dead on arrival by a doctor.
Mohammed claimed that the State Police Commissioner, Mr. John Abang, had ordered the transfer of the matter to the State CID, Awka, for a discreet investigation in order to unravel the actual cause of the incident.
