After fighting their way to a 3-1 victory at West Ham, Manchester United celebrate another entry in the Premier League record books, with no side in the history of the competition having gained more points from games in which they have trailed.

In their latest outing at London Stadium, the Red Devils now have 385 to their credit, with a stirring fightback being staged.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw his side fall behind to a Tomas Soucek effort during a forgettable first-half display from the visitors to east London.

United had shuffled their pack going into a meeting with the Hammers with the intention of keeping Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford fresh for a critical clash with RB Leipzig in the Champions League and Manchester City’s derby date.

However, both were needed at half-time to move off the bench.

With Portuguese playmaker Fernandes pulling the strings in trademark fashion, their effect was immediate.

Before Mason Greenwood edged the Red Devils in front with a clinical finish, he teed up Paul Pogba for United’s leveler, as West Ham claimed that clearance from Dean Henderson had gone out of play.

As he sped through to dink over Lukasz Fabianski, Rashford then wrapped up the scoring 12 minutes from time.

United have now won all five of their 2020-21 away Premier League games, and have gained 15 points from losing positions.

With a side that became famous for digging out results under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson delivering more of the same with Solskjaer at the helm, the haul brought them to the top of another notable list.

United may be eager to kick their habit of conceding first in games, but they are to be praised for their fighting qualities.

Issues on home soil do need to be tackled, with progress keeping them successful for now on their journeys.

This season, five of the Red Devils’ six wins, which helped them into the top four, have come out of Old Trafford.

A week later than the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, having begun their campaign, Solskjaer’s men still have a game in hand to fall on in a title battle that looks like it’s being strongly contested.

It may be that on Sunday, they lost their new record to Spurs, with Jose Mourinho’s men due to face Arsenal in a derby in north London that could see them fight back from falling behind, but for now the Manchester men should bask in the fact that their doubters continue to be silenced.
