Man Utd to ‘consider giving a two-year contract to Sergio Ramos’ on normal Real Madrid pay

By recruiting Sergio Ramos, Manchester United may bolster their options in central defence.

Although the seasoned defender, who turns 35 in March, is reportedly in negotiations over a contract extension with Real Madrid, there seems to be a stumbling block over wages.

That could cause the Red Devils to step in before what could be the last few years of his tremendously successful career and sign Ramos on a free transfer.

While his current pay package will be one of the most costly at the club, Ed Woodward may be tempted by the lack of a transfer fee to offer a short-term contract.

Spanish outlet Grand Hotel Calciomercato announced that, due to the ongoing pandemic, United is contemplating a two-year contract offer as Los Blancos strive to minimize their wage budget.

They state that while Ramos aims to maintain its current salary of EUR 15m (£ 13.4m) per season until the summer of 2024, until the summer of 2023, Real offered £ 11.1m per season.

After they won La Liga glory in July, the defender said: “I’ll be here for as many years as the President wants me to be.” It’s not based on me.

“Here I am delighted and I want to put an end to my career. I hope I can retire.”
