Man Utd to consider swap deal with Real Madrid despite Paul Pogba contract extension

Manchester United could sign a key transfer target if Paul Pogba joins Real Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are likely to have had many conversations about the future of their World Cup winning midfielder after the club took the option to extend his contract until 2022.

That decision is likely to ensure that they can demand a higher fee for the player rather than keep him at the club for two more seasons, with Zinedine Zidane a huge fan of his talent.

If United do decide to enter talks over the 27-year-old, they might have an eye on Federico Valverde.

The Sun have reported that the Red Devils are monitoring the situation regarding the 22-year-old, and that they could eye a swap should Pogba finally get his dream move to Spain.

The report adds that United are on red-alert following his recent good form, and despite the fact that he has a release clause of a mammoth £640m, a swap deal could help them bypass a large payment.

Solskjaer said of Pogba this week: “Paul’s our player, he’s going to be here for another two years and sure he’s focused on doing his best for us and we want to see the best from Paul and I’m sure in the next couple of years we’ll get the best out of him.”

After Pogba said about the Spanish champions: “Yes, all footballers would like to play for Real Madrid.

“Maybe it is a dream. It is a dream for me, why not one day? As I have said, I am at Manchester United and I like my club.

“I am performing at Manchester United, I am enjoying myself and I want to do everything I can to get the club back to where it deserves to be.

“I am going to give my maximum, like my teammates. I prefer to concentrate on football and on returning to fitness.”
