The teenager was in a position to start his debut in the third round tie against Hornets but is self-isolating after the test

For Covid-19, Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri tested positive, holding him out of making his senior debut on Saturday against Watford.

His agency reported the 19-year-old, who signed in the summer transfer window, did not show symptoms but returned a positive result. He must follow the instructions of the government now and isolate himself for 10 days.

“I think we did well to follow the protocols as we have, we had the odd case and Facundo Pellistri got a positive one, so he reported that we usually don’t comment on who they are on his Twitter, but Facundo is good and probably he’ll be back with us soon,” said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at his press conference before the match.

“He was with the reserves and under-23s, and over Christmas, he wasn’t even in our party. Apart from that, we have a full and fit squad.”

The news was also supported by a statement from the Pellistri agency posted on social media: “He is doing the corresponding quarantine at home, without symptoms and complying with the physical care indicated by his club.” We thank the messages received in the last hours. He’ll be training with his teammates again soon.

The entire United squad and personnel are being screened twice a week, and earlier this week, the Premier League announced its largest number of positive tests.

In the last few weeks, three fixtures have been postponed because of covid, and Aston Villa is expected to field its U23s side in the FA Cup against Liverpool due to an increased number of positives in their squad.

United are adamant Pellistri is the only player with the virus, and despite his positive test, the game against Watford is not in danger.

Solskjaer hopes that football will continue to try to minimize the number of positive cases during this new lockdown period, in the midst of talking about a ‘circuit-breaker.’
