In Chilanga district, Lusaka, a 28-year-old man committed suicide after brutally murdering his 20-year-old wife.
On Saturday, January 2, 2021, Savior Katiyo of Longridge ended his life by hanging after savagely butchering his wife, Susan Moono.
Police spokeswoman Esther Mwaata Katongo, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, said the police inspected the crime scene and discovered Susan’s body with numerous wounds on both her wrists, her back and abdomen with protruding intestines and signs of human bite on the shoulder, chest, and both hands.
“The body had been found lying midway on the mattress while the body of the perpetrator was found hugging in the corner of a room with human bites on both hands, chest, shoulder, and on the back,” Katongo reported.
She said a knife was retrieved from a one-roomed house owned by a Mathews Muwowo where Katiyo had moved to stay after a marital dispute, accused of having been used in the act with bloodstains.
“It is alleged that Saviour Katiyo had moved from his matrimonial home and was staying at Muwowo’s house where the wife followed and seem to have had an altercation,” Katongo explained.
In contrast to violent methods, Katongo urged couples to always find amicable ways to sort out their marital disputes.
