Mercedes-Benz develops a 56-inch ‘Hyperscreen’ for its EQS electric car

Mercedes wants one giant monitor that basically consumes your view, never mind the multi-display cabins in cars such as the Porsche Taycan.

A 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen has been unveiled by the automaker that will cover nearly the entire cabin width of its EQS luxury EV.

It is not only intended to impress, it offers a seamless design of the instrument panel, infotainment and passenger monitor that eliminates unused components (such as the passenger view on a solo trip).

The panel uses OLED covered in anti-reflective Gorilla Glass, and owing to a camera and light sensor, it auto-adjusts brightness; it does not annoy you like some in-car displays at night. With an (unspecified) eight-core CPU and 24GB of RAM, it should also be responsive.

The GUI of the Hyperscreen can be as significant as the sheer scale. Mercedes focuses extensively on the surface of AI and recommends characteristics when you need them.

If you regularly speak to them on your drive home, it will offer to call a contact, will automatically raise the vehicle based on your position, and will even remember your favorite form of massage based on outside temperatures.

It could be simpler to use the controls than in earlier MBUX-equipped vehicles. Mercedes strives for a “zero layer” interface where typical tasks are instantly accessible. For example, navigation is often at the center of the screen.

The firm is also shy about exactly what you should expect to see the EQS beyond its vague target of 2021.

The Hyperscreen preview, however, gives a hint as to what Mercedes has scheduled. For the electric car age, this will truly be an S-Class, including spare-no-expense cabin tech.
