After the events that transpired in the US on Wednesday, January 6, US Vice President Mike Pence updated his Twitter bio to a photo of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Pence altered the bio in a surprising criticism of his boss after Trump blamed him for not ‘helping him out’ in the certification process of electoral college voting, using his symbolic role as Senate President.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican, said he spoke to Vice President Mike Pence about his criticism of President Trump, and Pence was ‘really angry with him.’
Trump’s remarks were also deemed “regrettable” by Inhofe.
On Wednesday, Pence publicly broke with Trump, saying he could not agree to demands that the election results be overthrown.
In a letter to lawmakers, Pence formalized his views, declaring that he had no “unilateral authority to decide presidential contests” and will not modify the election outcome.
It is my considered judgment that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not,”
