On Tuesday, December 15, during a 10-minute speech on the Senate floor, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell remembered former Vice President Joe Biden as the president-elect.

Shortly after the Electoral College endorsed the outcome, the Kentucky Republican congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their presidential election victory.

Noting Harris’ historic election as the first female vice president, McConnell said, “Beyond our differences, for the very first time, all Americans can take pride in our country having a female vice president.”

When Biden was vice president and McConnell was the GOP leader during the presidency of Barack Obama, Biden and McConnell worked together in the Senate for years and arranged numerous deals.

The acknowledgment of Biden by McConnell came at the tail end of a long speech celebrating the successes of Trump and after Senate Chaplain Barry Black recognized Biden and Harris as victors.

McConnell referred to Trump as an “outsider who swore he would shake up Washington and lead our country to new accomplishments both at home and abroad” and did exactly that.”
