Jose Mourinho thinks Paul Pogba should have been sent out after Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Tottenham on Sunday if the referee had noticed the incident earlier in the game.

In the first half, Red Devils striker Edinson Cavani had a disallowed goal for a foul on Son Heung-min by Scott McTominay in the build-up.

Pogba, on the other hand, escaped punishment earlier in the game when he attempted to tackle Serge Aurier but accidentally caught the full-face back’s with his shoulder.

What Mourinho Said

“We were up against a good team with a lot of solid midfielders. We had several opportunities to score a second goal. We came out of nowhere and ruled the roost during that time span “‘I told Sky Sports,’ he said.

“It was, in my opinion, a good game. In my view, we did not deserve this outcome. We were unfortunate because Pogba should have been sent off for elbowing Serge Aurier.”

When asked about the goal that was ruled out for United, Mourinho said: “I don’t know anything about VAR anymore. I watched the match between Fulham and Wolves. Nothing makes sense to me anymore. You get it sometimes, and you don’t get it most times. I’m not sure how to react. Because you’re afraid, you don’t celebrate a goal.”

How did United end up defeating Spurs?

Despite Son scoring the game’s first goal 40 minutes into the second half in north London, United were able to recover in the second half.

Before the hour mark, Fred equalized with a rebound after Cavani’s shot was saved by Hugo Lloris.

With just over 10 minutes remaining, Cavani met Mason Greenwood’s cross and headed United into the lead.

Greenwood then got in on the act in stoppage time, scoring from close range after Pogba had set him up.

United have now won four consecutive Premier League games and are still in the second position.
After Pep Guardiola’s side lost 2-1 to Leeds on Saturday, they have closed the gap on leaders Manchester City to 11 points.

Spurs, meanwhile, have fallen further behind in the chase for a Champions League spot, now trailing fourth-placed West Ham by six points.
