Mum, 32, was cleared of sexual charges with boy, 14, because she did not know his age

As she thought he was older, a 32-year-old mum was cleared of knowingly having sex with a 14-year-old boy.

When the jury delivered their decision after only one hour and four minutes, Teah Vincent cried openly at Gloucester Crown Court.

The mum-of-three confessed to initiating sex with the teenager at her home in Woolaston, Gloucestershire, during the four-day trial, but claimed she believed he was over 16.

On October 21st 2018, when she invited them for a soft drink, the court learned that the boy and another 14-year-old were playing football near her house.

Then she reportedly took one of the guys upstairs to her apartment, stripped him naked, and dragged him down to her bed, where she had sex and straddled him.

Vincent was found not guilty of intentionally having sex with an under-age boy by the jury of eight men and four women, leading to Judge Ian Lawrie QC discharging her.

The decision came after late evidence regarding the false date of birth the boy had given on his Facebook profile emerged in the trial on Wednesday.

The teenager was recalled to the witness box and clarified that after being given a new phone for his 13th birthday, he had entered the false date of birth.

Pressed about the age at which he told Ms. Vincent he was, he said, “I definitely did not tell her I was 16 going on 17.”

“Ms Vincent said yesterday during her testimony to the jury, “I’m sure he told me that he was 16 and I felt he looked much older.

It didn’t happen to me that he may have been underage.

“He definitely did not tell me he was in Year 9, or that he was only 14-year-old before we had sex.”

In her final statement to the jury before they retired to consider their decision, defense barrister Catherine Flint said: “Can you be sure he told her she was 14 before they had sex, or had he lied about his age?”

Before they retired, Judge Ian Lawrie QC told the jury: ‘The problems in the case are clear. It comes down to the age of the boy’s issue.

The victim was a teenage virgin, and she was more than twice his age, a lot older than him. Sexually, Ms. Vincent took the lead.

Ms Vincent claimed that before he was taken upstairs to her apartment, the boy was flirting with her. This would seem to extend legitimacy, as he was inexperienced about sexual matters.

Ms Vincent had never met the boy before, but she had seen some of his friends who were much older than him. She said that she thought that he was a lot older.
