Justin Bieber, the superstar artist, has spoken out about his drug addiction and eventual transformation into the person he is today.
Bieber’s first song, “One Time,” went platinum in 2009 when he was only 15 years old, catapulting him to global superstardom. However, he has made headlines for breaking the law several times in his young career.
In November 2018, Justin Bieber revealed his marriage to Hailey Baldwin. In March 2019, he announced that he will be taking a break from music to concentrate on his mental health.
Bieber, 27, disclosed the nature of his opioid addiction in a recent interview with GQ magazine, as well as the evolution of his relationship with his wife Hailey Baldwin and his conversion to Christianity.
Bieber admitted that his opioid addiction was so severe that security guards would come into his room at night to check his pulse to ensure he was still alive.
“I have this outpouring of love that I want to be able to share with people,” Bieber told journalist Zach Baron. “I have a wife who I adore, who I feel comforted by. I feel safe. I feel like my relationship with God is wonderful. And I have this outpouring of love that I want to be able to share with people.”
“It was like I had all this success and it was still like: I’m still sad, and I’m still in pain, and I still have these unresolved issues,” he explained. “And I thought all the success would make everything better, and so for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just keep getting through.”
He also discussed his discovery in 2020 that he was suffering from Lyme disease.
“To be honest, I’m a lot healthier,” Bieber said, “and I did have a lot of things going on, like mono and Lyme disease.”
“But I was also exploring a lot of emotional territories, which played a role. And we have a proclivity for blaming anything on someone else. Often… a lot of the time, it’s just your personal things.”
After a rocky start, Bieber claims his marriage has turned into a big positive force.
“Because there was a lot, going back to the trauma stuff,” he said, “the first year of marriage was really difficult.”
But, he said, now is a different story “We’re only making these memories for ourselves as a couple and as a family. And it’s wonderful that we have that to anticipate.”
Bieber claims that his religion is one of the reasons he is in a happier position these days.
