Researchers have found that an inflammatory reaction in the brain may be caused by the covid-19 infection, leading to ‘stroke-like’ damage to some areas as a result of the body fighting the virus, a new study says.

An MRI scanner was used by researchers from the National Institutes of Health and found injuries to the olfactory bulb in the brain as well as damage to the brain stem.

The research was performed on brain tissue in 19 patients aged 5 to 73 years who died of coronavirus who had been infected with the virus for different periods of time.

And since no coronavirus was detected in the tissue, the scientists concluded that the harm resulted from “the inflammatory response of the body to the virus.”

In samples from patients who had fought against coronavirus, the researchers discovered the damage caused by thinning and leaky brain blood vessels.

But the testing showed that the damage did not look like it was associated with “a lack of oxygen.” symptoms.

In the New England Journal of Medicine, Avindra Nath, the clinical director at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the senior author of the report, wrote:

“We found that perhaps the brains of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection may be vulnerable to severe to microvascular blood vessels.”

“Our findings indicate that this could be due to the inflammatory response of the body to the virus.

We hope that these outcomes will help doctors understand the full range of issues that patients can suffer from.

That will allow us to come up with better treatments.

So far, our findings indicate that the damage we saw could not have been caused directly by the brain-infecting SARS-CoV-2 virus.

“We plan to study in the future how COVID-19 harms the blood vessels of the brain and whether this creates some of the short- and long-term symptoms we see in patients.”

In finding brain damage among the samples, Dr. Nath identified himself as “completely surprised,” adding that the damage was multifocal and “strongly correlated with strokes and neuroinflammation diseases.”

“In ten patients, stroke-like complications were revealed, and the scans exposed damage “corresponding to congested blood vessels.

In the UK, the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths is now more than 81,000, with 3,072,349 infected individuals.
