Nigerian Governor Ortom tests positive for corona virus

Samuel Ioraer Ortom, the Benue state governor, businessman, administrator and philanthropist has tested positive for Corona Virus.

On Tuesday, the governor reported his positive viral infection status on his  Facebook profile.

“This is to confirm that there was a positive result from my last COVID-19 test,” he said.

While he did not exhibit any symptoms, Ortom said he had already undergone therapy.

He recommended anyone who had been in touch with him in the last few days to take the COVID-19 test.

In order to determine their COVID-19 status, it is equally important that those who have come into touch with other people who have tested positive for the virus should go for a test. I encourage the citizens of Benue and other Nigerians to continue to follow the virus prevention protocol,’ said Mr Ortom.

The governor urged people not to be fearful of going for the COVID-19 test because doing so alone would serve to prevent the disease from spreading.

Newspapers revealed again earlier this year how, after getting into touch with others who had developed it, the governor tested negative for the infection.

Nigeria, the African giant, is now facing a second outbreak of contamination with a new strain said to be in circulation by health practitioners.

While there is still no vaccine against the virus in Nigeria, authorities have continued to urge Nigerians to comply with all safety precautions aimed at reducing its spread, even as the number of infections and fatalities continues to grow.
