Nigerian man arrested in Cambodia for paying traffic fine with fake US$100 note

A Nigerian man has been arrested in Cambodia after he was accused of paying his traffic fine with counterfeit US$100 note.

The unnamed Nigerian national was arrested by traffic police in Phnom Penh on Monday, November 9, at 10:40 am and sent to Khan Dongkor police station.

Traffic police were gathered at the Chamkar Dong bridge traffic light when the Nigerian man drove his Prius car through a red light on 371st Street and turned to Chamkar Dong Road at 217th Street. He was subsequently arrested for traffic violations and charged.

The Nigerian man tried to pay the fine with a $100 note, according to local media, but the policemen had no change. To have it converted into smaller notes, they took the money to the bank but were told that it was fake.

A fake banknote was returned to the Nigerian man by the police, who abruptly tore it up, claiming that he would not pay the fine.

Subsequently, he was arrested, sent for questioning to the Khan Dongkor police station and charged with possession and distribution of fake currency notes.
