Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, Minister of State for Health, suggested that the ongoing registration of the National Identification Number (NIN) could be halted due to risks associated with COVID-19.
Mamora said this while appearing on Sunrise Daily’s Channels Television on Monday.
He urged the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to return to the drawing board and re-order the process at its centers nationwide to prevent large crowds.
Mamora, who is also a member of the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force (PTF), said the government has a responsibility to ensure that people are still safe.
I don’t feel good-looking at the image of people gathering in crowds; it’s like a super-spreading phenomenon that we don’t like.
But I am also aware that this is being looked at by the related Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
“My understanding is that the entire process can be suspended so that the entire process can be reordered in terms of crowd management,” Mamora said.
