Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 VRAM Might Be Capable of Running ‘Crysis 3’

The pricey Nvidia RTX 3090 is likely overkill for the average person in the market for a new gaming card. With its massive 24GB of VRAM, it seems like it’s just a big much for what everyday normal users will require. That’s likely why Twitter user Strife212 decided to put that impressive frame buffer to the test.

Strife212 enlisted the program VRAM Drive to create a 15GB virtual drive within the VRAM to install Crysis 3. After the install, the popular shooter had just 9GB of VRAM left over to utilize as graphics memory. Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly enough, Crysis 3 runs fantastically in 4K at “very high” graphical settings. Apparently, VRAM hardly ever reached 20GB.

Crysis 3 is the third installment in the ubiquitous shooter series. It follows the character Prophet, who’s working to enact revenge on the Alpha Ceph, or the leader of the powerful Ceph alien race. This game caps off the end of the Crysis trilogy. Though it released in 2013, it’s still a demanding title on hardware due to its lush environments and challenging textures.

Crysis has always been famously difficult to run for even more powerful PCs. The fact that the VRAM alone from the RTX 3090 could handle this type of stress is impressive. It also proves that VRAM utilized in SSDs will absolutely speed up load times and make things more efficient in terms of loading up games and applications.
