Over 140 Nigerian police officers deployed to Somalia to train men of the Somalia Police Force

The Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has announced the arrival of 144 Nigerian policemen and women to help with stabilization efforts and to train Somali police officers. The police, which included women, flew out of Nigeria over the weekend.

30 police officers will work under AMISOM for a year, according to AMISOM Police Operations Coordinator Daniel Ali Gwambal. He mentioned that they will be stationed in Beletweyne, HirShabelle State, with the remainder serving in various capacities in Mogadishu, the capital.

“They are here to carry out AMISOM’s mission of providing operational assistance to the Somalis while also mentoring the Somali Police Force (SPF).”

“While they are here, they are also expected to perform some particular duties, such as routine patrols at checkpoints, guard static duties, and other general policing duties,” Gwambal said in a statement.

The officers will provide VIP escort and security services, as well as training and assisting the Somali Police Force SPF in public order management, according to him.

They will also conduct joint patrols with their Somali counterparts, as well as protect key government facilities and high-level events, according to him.
