Owing to the fallout between Solskjaer and Mourinho, Man United miss out on a chance to sign Harry Kane

Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s astonishing war of words with Jose Mourinho, Manchester United have blown their chance to sign Harry Kane.

Kane has been linked with a number of clubs, including Manchester United, after hinting that his future might lie outside of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs chief executive Daniel Levy has been adamant about not selling Kane to a Premier League rival, but that hasn’t stopped United from showing an interest in the England captain.

However, the interest seems to have waned following a verbal spat between United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho over Sunday’s match in north London.

Mourinho was enraged by remarks made by United manager Jose Mourinho about Son Heung-min, and the two clashed in the tunnel after the match.

In the first-half incident with Scott McTominay, which resulted in Edinson Cavani’s opening goal being ruled out by VAR, Solskjaer blamed Son of play-acting.

“If my son stays down for three minutes and wants his ten friends to help him up, he won’t get any food,” he told reporters.

Mourinho, enraged, retorted: “I just want to say that Sonny is extremely fortunate to have a father who is a better person than Ole.

“Because I believe that a father – and I am a father – must always feed his children. It makes no difference what they do. You steal to feed your children if you have to.

“What would be the response if I told that player A, B, or C from another club that if it were my baby, I wouldn’t feed him dinner tonight? It’s a really sad situation.”

United has called off a move for Kane this summer as a result of the bitter fallout, with the Old Trafford hierarchy enraged by Mourinho’s outburst.

Although United’s executives still respect Kane’s abilities, they now seem less likely to strike a contract because they don’t want to overpay Tottenham for his services.
