After filming himself sexually assaulting a toddler, a paedo described as a “truly disgusting human being” was sentenced to prison.
Before he assaulted the kid, Michael Colmer, 45, and his girlfriend Shannon Vicary, 26, spoke about the heinous violence on WhatsApp.
Colmer was found with over 600 pornographic photographs of children, including images of the victim, when the couple from Newport, Wales, was arrested.
According to WalesOnline, the child’s mother, who has been given lifelong anonymity along with the victim, said the pair’s actions had “devastated” her family’s lives.
The couple made sure Colmer would be alone with the child so he could assault him and film it, according to Cardiff Crown Court.
The pair would “talk of their curiosity of what was to come” over WhatsApp, according to prosecutor Matthew Cobbe.
“It started with a comment on a photograph of young children in school uniforms, and that comment turned pornographic,” he continued.
“Colmer sent Vicary a photo of his penis and mentioned something about what they were going to do the next day.”
Vicary’s home was raided by police in October 2020, after the National Crime Agency reported that someone using an email account at the address had accessed pornographic photographs of children.
Colmer admitted there were indecent photographs on his iPad and phone after police arrived at the house.
Officers discovered 187 images in category A, 144 images in category B, 277 images in category C, and six extreme pornographic images. These children included infants and toddlers under the age of 18 months.
Police called the child’s mother after the victim was found.
“I feel like a bad parent because I didn’t know what was going on and couldn’t protect my daughter,” she said in court, reading a statement.
“I’m baffled as to why these individuals did what they did to my daughter. I sincerely hope they will never be able to do this to anyone else. This has wreaked havoc on my family and me.”
Colmer subsequently admitted to sexual harassment, assault by penetration, causing or inciting a child to participate in sexual activity, taking indecent photographs, creating indecent images, and possessing extreme pornographic images.
Vicary pleaded guilty to two counts of child sex offense planning.
Colmer’s lawyer, Nigel Fryer, said there was nothing more than his client’s guilty pleas to give as mitigation.
“The truth of his case is that he knows that any right-thinking person will find what he has done abhorrent, and he apologizes for his actions,” he said.
Colmer was sentenced to 11 years and four months in jail, with a six-year extended licensing term, for a total of 17 years and four months in prison.
Before being eligible for parole, he must complete at least two-thirds of his prison term. A sexual harm prevention order was also placed on him.
Judge David Wynn Morgan, who sentenced Colmer, said: “This case exposes depravity on an almost unprecedented scale on both your and Vicary’s parts.
“You have shown yourself to be a completely despicable human being, Colmer. No one can judge the extent of your victim’s injuries, but the harm you caused to her mother is immense.
“You pose a significant risk of harm to small children.”
Vicary should not be convicted until the court has had time to review a medical report, the judge decided.
On May 28, she will be tried at Cardiff Crown Court.
