PDP breaks Covid-19 protocols in order to elect state leaders in Jigawa


Representatives of the Democratic People’s Party, PDP, conducted a state congress by disobeying the protocols of COVID-19.

This comes at a time when the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic is of major concern to the world.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that 99,063 cases were confirmed, 79,417 cases were discharged, and 1,350 deaths were reported nationwide.

In total, 415 COVID-19 cases were registered in the state of Jigawa and twelve people lost their lives to the deadly virus.

Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said the state government is taking steps to prevent the second wave of the pandemic from spreading.

Governor Badaru banned all meetings involving more than 50 individuals, ordered civil servants to work from home, and all primary and secondary schools were closed.

He also ordered all COVID-19 safety recommendations to be strictly complied with, including the ban on large gatherings, compulsory wearing of facemasks, maintaining physical distance, daily hand washing and sanitizing use.

However, in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Headquarters, said that the congress will be observed in compliance with the directives of the NCDC.

However, we noticed that the delegates and other members of the party were completely overlooked and violated all the safety guidelines.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the congress, Dr. Umar Ardo, said the candidates for consensus were elected in all 39 places.

Did he tell Hon. Hon Ali Idris Diginsa, Deputy Chairman, was elected as Chairman by Babandi Ibrahim.

Isa Zakari, Idris Iliyas and Muhammad Zangi as vice-presidents, and Isa Bello Gwadayi as party secretary.
