Aleksander Ceferin, the president of UEFA, has confirmed that clubs and players participating in the planned breakaway European Super League will be barred from all of UEFA’s competitions, including the World Cup, “as soon as possible.”

Ceferin launched a scathing assault on the initiative, which could change the game of football forever, during an emergency meeting on Monday, April 19, after 12 of Europe’s top clubs revealed the European Super League.

Ceferin has now declined to rule out the possibility of players being barred from competing in the Euros. When asked when the ban would go into effect, he said, “I don’t know when.”

‘We’re still assessing with our legal team, but we’ll take all available sanctions and notify you as soon as possible,’ he said.

‘In my view, they should be banned from all of our tournaments, and the players from all of our competitions, as soon as possible.’

The European Super League, Ceferin continued, is a “spit in the face” for football and culture. He then went on to call Man United chairman Ed Woodward and former European Club Association chairman Andrea Agnelli (Juventus president) “the biggest disappointments,” accusing the latter of lying to UEFA about the Super League plans.

‘I don’t want to get too personal, but I’ve never seen a person lie so many times and so persistently as he did,’ he said. It’s incredible.’

Ceferin said he talked with Agnelli (pictured below), who is also the president of Juventus, on Saturday and was told that rumors of a European Super League were just that.

Ceferin says Agnelli turned off his phone after they decided to meet again an hour later.

“In my life, I’ve seen a lot of things. I used to work as a criminal defense attorney. I’ve never seen someone like that before “Ceferin said.

“To begin with, Ed Woodward (pictured below) called me last Thursday evening to say he’s very happy with and completely supports the changes, and the only thing he wants to speak about is Financial Fair Play, despite the fact that he’d already signed something else.”

‘I cannot emphasize enough how unified UEFA and the footballing world are against this self-serving proposal from a select few clubs,’ he said.

He said that culture, football, and the government were all “united” against the initiative.

‘We are all united in our resistance to these nefarious proposals.’

‘We implore others to join us in standing tall.’

‘This definition is a slap in the face to all football layers, as well as culture.’ I’m not going to let them take [football] from us.
