President Buhari has responded to the news that the abducted Kankara students have been released.
President Buhari hailed the Army in a statement released by his Media and Publicity Special Assistant, Garba Shehu, for working to get the boys reunited with their families. The Armed Forces, he said, know their jobs and are highly motivated.

President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed the release of kidnapped students from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, describing their safe return as a great relief to their families, the whole country, and the international community.
President Buhari expressed the gratitude of the nation for the measures taken by those concerned to make their release possible in a brief remark shortly after their release was announced.
President Buhari specifically cited what he called the “spirit of cooperation and the Katsina, Zamfara and military government’s joint efforts leading to the release.
He thanked the intelligence services of the government, the military and police forces for providing the environment for the secure release of the hostages.
The Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, and the military have been working extremely hard. I congratulated them as soon as I got the details. The Armed Forces understand their jobs. They were well educated and encouraged properly.
The President gave assurances that his administration is aware of its obligation to protect the lives and property of Nigerians on the issue of prisoners held elsewhere in the world by either terrorists or bandits.
President Buhari urged people to be patient and fair to the administration as it tackles defense, economic and corruption problems.
He noted that the administration was well aware that it had been selected to fix difficulties.
When we returned, we made the effort to bring back the Chibok Children. When a similar school abduction incident took place in Dapchi, all but one of the more than one hundred abductees were safely returned. We put in our efforts when this latest incident occurred, and today we have this outcome to prove.
The President referred to the administration’s gains in South-South and North East security management.
He said that the North West is now a threat that his administration is determined to resolve.
We need to do a lot of work, especially now that we have re-opened the borders. Unfortunately, even under the circumstances of the closure of the border, bandits and terrorists continue to acquire weapons. We’re going to dare to do them. We’re going to deal with all that,’ he further told the President.
In the course of their six-day ordeal, he prayed for the complete recovery of the students, whom he said had undergone severe hardships.
The President assured all people held against their will of his government’s commitment to return to safety.
