In Brazil, a priest was lauded for posting a picture next to two transsexual followers, saying “we are all God’s children”

The image was shared by Father Julio Lancellotti with the caption: “Always accept, never discriminate.”

The image was posted to the 340,000 followers of Lancellotti’s Instagram, and rapidly attracted tens of thousands of likes.

Lancellotti has become famous for his liberal and outspoken attitudes in a country noted for its religious extremism.

Lancellotti has been widely celebrated at the Sao Miguel Arcanjo Church in the neighborhood of Mooca in the south-eastern Brazilian city of Sao Paulo for his extensive work with homeless people over many years.

But it is also claimed that the 72-year-old was the victim of internet trolls for relentlessly protecting minorities and the weakest in society.

In 2018, when he was filmed on Holy Saturday, he gained attention by having his feet kissed by a homeless transsexual and seeking forgiveness for the pain society inflicted on her.

Thousands have watched the video of Lancellotti asking Sheila for forgiveness and telling people to honor “her way of being”

Lancellotti was honored for his voluntary work by the Human Rights Committee of the Brazilian Bar Association and he remains active in society.

Supporters in Brazil have reportedly recently launched a drive to give the priest the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Despite being at high risk because of his age, Lancellotti continued his social work during the pandemic this year.
