Prison officer, faces jail term for having an ‘affair with a child killer’

A mother-of-three, prison guard faces jail after she reportedly entered into a romantic relationship with a convicted child murder.

Lauren McIntyre, 32, said that in an effort to discover intelligence, she struck up a romantic bond with double-killer Andrew Roberts.

But she said the relationship spiraled out of control-enabling her to be used by Roberts to orchestrate a fellow guard’s beating.

After having been accused of murdering his girlfriend and baby daughter, Roberts is serving life at HMP Isle of White.

A mom of 11-week-old twins and a five-year-old, McIntyre pleaded guilty to four counts of misconduct in the prison office.

Prosecutors questioned her claim of how the relationship started, with the court hearing the romance lasted four months ago.

She admitted during that period that she gave the phone number of fellow prison officer Samuel Laidler to Roberts, enabling him to plan a vicious attack.

In 2003, Roberts was accused of strangling Louise L’Homme at their home in Rhondda, South Wales, and their eight-month-old baby girl.

Before applying perfume to mask their decaying scent, the sick murderer stashed their bodies under a bed.

He then fled before being snatched five days later by detectives.

Roberts was 22 when he was sentenced at the Swansea Crown Court to two life sentences and spent his time on the Isle of White in category B custody.

During an appearance at Isle of White Crown Court, Judge Malcolm Gibney told McIntyre that the threshold for detention had been reached.

Failing to report to prison officials, the prison guard admitted that Roberts had a cell phone.

She also said that she gave him her number, emailed him and sent him a picture of herself.

McIntyre pleaded guilty to attempting to allow him to move cash into her bank account.

The mum-of-three also admitted that she gave Roberts the phone number of fellow prison officer Samuel Laidler, allowed him to assault Officer Laidler and failed to alert her colleague or the prison authorities of the attack.

Defending McIntyre, Briony Molyneux said the partnership began as an operation to obtain information-although this is contested by prosecutors.

In January, she will be convicted at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for four counts of wilfully neglecting to perform her duties and wilfully misconducting herself in a way that amounted to a violation of the confidence of the public between November and December 2018.

On the condition that she remain at her home address, McIntyre was bailed.
