John Adekolawole, the rector of the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State, has indeed been suspended for “sleeping at work.” by the academic board of the university.

Adekunle Masopa, chairman of the institution’s Academic Workers Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), said the board based its decision on 21 factors.

Speaking after the union’s emergency congress, Masopa said a position paper was sent by the board to the union following its meeting.

They accused Adekolawole of desecrating the rector’s prestigious office by building a bedroom furnished with a king-size bed that made it possible for him to “sleep at work.”

He said;

We have attempted to interfere, but the members of the academic board have indicated that they have made a decision and that their decision will remain in effect.

They said, however, that a position paper will be transmitted to us. We have been informed of the said position document.

Some of the reasons put forward for the action are as follows: one, flagrant dereliction of duty by absconding from office for about a month. Two, the desecration of the rector’s highly regarded office by building a bedroom furnished with a king-size bed that allowed him to sleep at work.

Improper improvisation of the National Diploma plus NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) dual award program in collaboration with an advisor.
