Rep members kicks Against NERC demand for N2.1bn to furnish and partition headquarters

Members of the House of Representatives Power Committee opposed a proposal by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for N2.1 billion in the 2021 budget for the partitioning and furnishing of its headquarters in Abuja.

James Momoh, NERC Chairman, who appeared before the committee on Wednesday, November 4 to defend the commission’s 2021 budget proposal, said that work is underway in the eight-floor building and the money is needed to make the building more conducive.

Momoh, who disclosed that they were unable to spend all the money released to NERC for the project in the 2020 budget due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was unable to provide the total contract sum when asked to disclose the total contract amount required to complete the partitioning and furnishing of the office.

In response to this, House Committee Chairman Magaji Aliyu threatened to withdraw the request from the budget proposal for 2021.

Aliyu said;

“If you do not have the contract sum, we will delete it from the budget.

“You have only one line item and you came unprepared.”

The NERC chairman was further directed to go back and bring the total contract sum.
