Restructuring is not as significant as hunger and poverty – Rotimi Amaechi says

amaechi

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to the calls for restructuring which was recently reignited by the Governors in the South-South region he comes from.

The former Governor of Rivers state who spoke in an interview on Channels Television stated that while the calls for the restructuring of the country may not be bad, however tackling hunger and poverty is more critical to the federal government.

He said;

If restructuring is important to you, I don’t see anything wrong with restructuring, but I’m thinking that it’s not the most important issue we have.

The most important challenge we face is that insecurity breeds hunger and suffering.

If you are capable of creating work, you create stability. Whether you want to employ as many policemen as you want to hire, you won’t do much unless you put food in people’s hands.

If you do not create a legitimate economy, people will create an illegitimate economy for themselves and have the ability to feed themselves.

Admitting that many farmers in certain areas of the world are unable to go to their fields, the head of the APC said Nigeria faces a kind of instability unlike what was previously conceivable.

He added;

We are facing a different kind of insecurity.

When we were in power as governors, the problem we were facing was Boko Haram. Not is it much more than Boko Haram. We need to address those issues.
