According to Dailystar, Scientists have said that the UK’s national lockout needs to be tighter in order for it to have a major effect on Covid cases in the same manner as March restrictions.

Earlier this week, Boris Johnson placed the entire country under strict lockdown measures, forcing the closing of stores, pubs and leisure companies in an effort to avoid the spread of Covid.

Restrictions were compared to the March lockdown, but Professor Robert West, a participant in the Behavioral Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group, said measures need to be stricter to reduce the number of cases.

He said the latest infectious variant is around 50 percent more transmittable than in March, so to handle it, we need a ‘stricter’ lockdown.

Speaking to BBBC News, Mr. West said: “Because we have the more contagious variant, which is somewhere around 50 percent more infectious than last time round in March, that means that we’d have to achieve the same result as we got in March we would have to have a stricter quarantine, and it’s not stricter.”

Prof West said it is “in fact less strict” and stated that the government is “very much aware of the consequences” that might lead to a lighter lockdown.

He also said that the current result was “always avoidable” and said that implying otherwise is “completely false.”

This was all avoidable, Mr. West added. When the government says – now I’m afraid I’m going to be very critical – but when the government says “oh, we’re in the same boat as in other countries, we didn’t see this coming” and so on, and “we’re operating at the right time.”

The professor also reported that in the summer when cases decreased, the government was advised to “ramp up” Test and Trace.

He said the inability to do so has now contributed to the penalty of the British in the third lockdown and said that “much, much more about support.” was always the management of the pandemic.
