In Tuesday’s international match, the seasoned center-back was forced off, but seems likely to have just a brief spell on the sidelines.

Sergio Ramos is set to miss a trio of Real Madrid matches, but the Spanish champions will be glad that their captain is not set for a longer lay-off after winning over Germany in Spain’s Nations League.

In the first half of Tuesday’s 6-0 drubbing of the visitors in Seville, the seasoned center-back, who skippers both Los Blancos and La Roja, was forced off, creating fears that he might be heading for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 34-year-old was able to leave the field under his own steam, making room for Eric Garcia shortly before the break at La Cartuja Stadium, but his premature departure inspired concerns that Madrid would be forced to go for the near future without their stalwart defender.

The club has now reported that Ramos has sustained a hamstring injury to his right leg, and that he will probably miss the forthcoming matchups with Villarreal and Alaves in La Liga, as well as the Champions League tie with Inter, sandwiched between domestic commitments.

“After the tests carried out today on our player Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his right leg,” Madrid announced in an official statement.

Although the club has yet to provide an additional timeframe beyond that, stating that the former Sevilla man is awaiting further tests, the lack of a further timeline indicates a hope that the player will be able to figure in the plans of Zinedine Zidane for the trip to Shakhtar Donetsk in December.

So far this season, Ramos has started every league game for Madrid, forming the center of their defense as they aim to defend their title, with the trip to Villarreal on Saturday giving the club a chance to reset after a 4-1 loss to Valencia going into the international break.

For Luis Enrique’s national team, the center-back was also in good condition, extending his own record as the most-capped player in Spain’s history when leading the 2010 World Cup champions to their maiden Nations League finals with victory over Portugal.
