Xherdan Shaqiri acknowledges that he feels “frustrated” late at Liverpool, with injury problems stopping him from having enough time he craves for a daily game.

Without even being stuck on the sidelines, competition for places at Anfield is intense enough.

With the 29-year-old already finding it very difficult to land a recurring role in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, Shaqiri has not been in contention as much as he would have liked.

In the absence of game time, exit talk was sparked, but for now the Switzerland international has stayed put and accepted the many challenges he faces.

With 29 minutes off the bench in Friday’s 4-1 FA Cup third-round victory over Aston Villa, which marked his eighth appearance of the season, he hopes that better times lie ahead.

“Again, I’m fit and back. I feel fine, I am ready to play,” Shaqiri told the official site of the Reds.”

I look forward to the next matches and the second half of the season to try to support the team to achieve a lot of progress. I’m looking forward to.

It’s natural to be upset if you are hurt or you can’t support the team. You’re watching your team-mates on the TV at home and you want to be there too. This, though, is a part of football, a part of life.

I’ve been working hard to come back, so I’m pretty pleased with the team right now. When I play and try to win games, I’m trying to support my team now, which is the most important thing for us at the moment. I try to help with my own skill.

By late November and most of December, Shaqiri sat out nine games with a muscular complaint, but Liverpool prospered during that time to reach the top of the Premier League table and make their way through to the last-16 of the Champions League.

Once again on Merseyside, big silverware is the main goal, with everyone at Klopp’s disposal determined to play their part in trophy bids.
