In America, ugly demonstration clashes left at least four people with stab wounds and another shot wounded.
When confronted by Black Lives Matter counter-protesters, a march of 15,000 far-right Donald Trump supporters who marched on Saturday on Washington DC spiraled into violence.
The faithful supporters of the outgoing president took to the streets outside the Supreme Court after it threw out a case filed in an effort to reverse the triumphant election results of Joe Biden.
Near Harry’s Bar, a hotspot for the male-chauvinist and far-right group, the Proud Boys, on 11th and F streets NW, at least four people were stabbed at around 9:20 pm.
The Washington Post notes that DC Fire spokesman Doug Buchanan said it was unclear which groups the victims taken to the hospital may have belonged to.
In response to a single gunshot fired, counter-protesters were filmed falling to the ground with some crying for help.
A man with a gun can be seen running from the scene in one video and putting on a red hat.
Chris Loftis, a Washington State Patrol spokesman, said that in connection with the episode two suspects were in custody, but that precise details about the shooting were not yet available, including the condition of the individual who was shot.
And as they separated into smaller numbers, police officers wearing riot gear largely succeeded in holding the two protest groups apart.
Equipped with helmets and bulletproof vests, Proud Boys marched in military-like rows across downtown, yelling “move out and “1776!” but with lines of bikes, the police managed to continue blocking their path.
The rally was attended by speakers including conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and star fraud witness Melissa Carona of Rudy Giuliani, who said Trump was the “best president we’ve ever had”
After announcing, “Joe Biden will be removed, one way or another!” Jones was accused of encouraging abuse.
When Black Lives Matter protesters launched fireworks before D.C., violence started to escalate as night fell. The police have made at least 23 arrests.
In total, eight persons, including two police officers and four people stabbed, were taken from the riot for emergency care in the hospital.
After the competing groups started to use physical force against each other the police declared a riot as early as about 1.30 pm on Saturday.
