After a brief illness, Star Wars actor Dave Prowse died at the age of 85, his agent has stated.
Dave was better known for portraying Darth Vader, the father of Luke Skywalker, in the original Star Wars trilogy movies from 1977 to 1983, while James Earl Jones supplied the voice of the character.
In the original Star Wars, The Powers Hit Back and the Jedi Return, he starred.
Owing to his history as a weightlifter and his formidable physique, he won the legendary role.
His late co-star Carrie Fisher allegedly called Bristolian Dave “Darth Farmer” because he had such a powerful West Country accent.
“It is with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and millions of fans around the world to announce that our friend, DAVE PROWSE M.B.E., died at the age of 85.
Thomas Bowington, his agent, said, “May the force be with him always!”
“Though famous for playing many monsters – for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives.”
“a truly and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans all over the world”a true and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans across the globe.
The other roles Dave played during his long career included Doctor Who, The Kenneth Williams Show, The Morecambe & Wise Show, and The Two Ronnies in 1972.
He also began his career in Hollywood for the first time by training the late actor Christopher Reeve as his personal trainer for his part in Superman.
The role he revealed he was most proud of, though was to play the Green Cross Code Guy, who helped teach millions of UK children about how to cross the lane.
He said the role was the “best job I ever had” after being awarded an MBE for his work in road safety in 2000.
He leaves behind Norma E Scammell, his partner, who he married in 1963, and with whom he shares three children.

“As a kid Dave Prowse couldn’t be more famous to me; stalking along corridors as evil incarnate in the part of Darth Vader & stopping a whole generation of kiddies from being mown down in street as the Green Cross Code man. Rest in Peace, Bristol’s finest.”Dave Prowse could not be more famous to me as a kid; stalking in the part of Darth Vader along corridors as evil incarnate & stopping a whole generation of kiddies from being mown down in the street as the man of the Green Cross Code.
