Taylor Momsen Recounts shooting The Grinch with Jim Carrey


In order to focus on her experience filming “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” in 2000, Taylor Momsen took a ride down memory lane.

During a Friday interview with “Today“, the actress remembered playing Cindy Lou Who’s role alongside the “incomparable” Jim Carrey. At the moment, she was just seven years old.

“I remember him being so kind so concerned, but so methodical with what he was doing,” she said, “Even at that young of an age, I remember watching him and going, ‘I’m watching an artist right now at work.'”

“I think that people love ‘The Grinch’ just simply because the core of the story is so sweet and it’s so heartwarming and it has such a good message,” she added.

“Aside from how amazing Jim Carrey’s performance is and the theatrics that went into the shoot, just the way the film looks and moves and is edited is amazing in its own right.”

Her career as a musician was also influenced by the gig.

She said of the celebrated musician, “The thing I remember most that probably resonated with me as an adult to this day was the first time I went into a recording studio and got to work with the amazing James Horner,” she said.

“And I’ll never forget to walk into this beautiful studio, with this immaculate console in front of me, and put on headphones and sing on a microphone for the microphone.”

That was such an impactful moment in my life because I want to make music for the rest of my life,’ it made me go. I love to be in a recording studio.’

A new single “Death By Rock And Roll.” was released recently by the star’s band The Pretty Reckless. But The Grinch” will still be remembered as her first opportunity to make a music video.

“I’m singing ‘Where Are You Christmas’ in my bedroom with a flashlight,” she remembered. “I mean, essentially, that was my first music video. So I always get a kick out of that And I remember thinking that was a really fun scene to film.”

Taylor said she knows the secret to her long-lasting popularity with the film marking her 20th anniversary.

“The fact that it comes back around every year — I think it’s something to look forward to And I think it just kinda brings happiness and joy to anyone who watches it.”
